Engagement pictures with radiopopper

Well this is my first engagement post this year. Yesterday, I had a chance to use one of my new toys, a radiopopper. I love outdoor engagement pictures, but sometimes the light conditions just plan stinks or I wish I could improve it. The radiopopper has expanded my tools of outdoor light control. Okay, that all about my toy. Let's get to the couple and the engagement pictures.

We started out in my backyard, then moved on to some train tracks. I like engagement pictures for a number of reasons: we both get to know one another, they get to see my style before the wedding, plus we have the time to go over some posing and talk about the flow of the wedding.

I had a lot of fun this couple. As with most it took a few minutes for everyone to loosen-up a bit.

I'm just getting over Christmas and working on the storybook from my December wedding. What a nice day that was, and what a fun time.

I'm trying something new and posting the progress of the storybook on this blog. I don't seem to get many comments; maybe this will help.

Let me tell you about my books. I don't use templates because I don't want to do the same old thing. Yet I will say that I have some layouts that are requested a lot. My main goal is to tell a story. Here is the first part if their story, with more to come later.

December Wedding

Just finished a wedding last night. It was almost 50 degrees yesterday, and now it's 8. Welcome to Nebraska.

I'll post some more images later. What a wonderful couple and I had FUN the whole time. I knew I loved this work for a reason.

Bridals

I love this job. Had a GREAT time today in my studio with a bride and her Mother. She was married about three weeks ago, and this was the first time I did bridal after the wedding.

Engagement photos

Engagement photos are something that I view them as a pre-wedding session. The benefits are huge to the wedding pictures. With this couple, it was so nice just to spend some time with them. I know this was the first time that we spent time taking pictures together, but I felt like we were old friends. With each wedding I photograph, I can't help but feel that glow that young couples share as they start their new lives together. I view this time with the couples as my own wedding refresher course. I can tell these two are the best of friends. Is this a great job or what?

High school senior part II

Here's an update from my first High school senior. With the weather finally turning nice, even if it's just for a day or two, it was a chance to do some outdoor senior pictures. From time to time we did have to wait while the sun would pop in and out. She is a lovely young lady, who is at ease in front of the camera. These were all taken outside within 100 yards of my studio.

This years first June wedding

I had a wedding yesterday. This is what it’s all about, a fun couple, great families and some nice pictures. I tried some new things, and I’m very happy with the way they turned out. I still am processing the files, so it will be a day or two before I can post some more.

High school senior season

We kicked off the beginning of High school senior season this evening.
Each session will have an outdoor and in-studio element. I’ll do classic and playful images. I’ll have to say, this young lady was fun to work with. As the evening rolled on, so did the clouds, so we’ll have to do the outdoor session later.

May Wedding

John and Calsey's wedding was at Bethany Lutheran with the reception at the DC Center. I was very excited when we did their engagement pictures. I could just tell that they fit together like a hand and a glove. Also, they were very easy in front of the camera.
Their wedding day was perfect, and so was the weather. I know I seem to talk a lot about the weather, but it can make pictures easy or a challenge. On the wedding day they were so laid back and comfortable. I think I was more tense then they were. One of the things that struck me about Calsey was her perfect skin, when I looked at the images of her, I would swear that her skin was airbrushed in Photoshop.

One of the many things that attracted me to wedding photography was the special time for families. These were two special families, and I'm sure they were key factors in the couple being so peaceful on their wedding day. One of the thing that made it special for me was they got me a flower, no kidding. I thought that was so cool, it was the only time that anyone did that for me. They made me feel like I was a guest rather than "the photographer."

I'm so thankful that I was able to record their wedding story, and to be part of their wedding day and part of their family if only for one day.

April wedding (My first Blog)

This being my first blog about a wedding, let me say that I seem to attract the best and happiest couples in the area. Shawn and Maria are no exception. The day started with a little rain, and it was on and off most of the day. They had their wedding and reception at Bayliss Park Hall. I loved that place because it had a lot of nice picture locations inside and the park is just out the front door. I checked the location out before, and had some ideas of what I wanted to do weeks before. The thing is, the rain just ruined the outdoor ideas I had. The one picture I wanted the most was the one under the dome in the park. That thing is so cool!

During the day if you look at it it's still nice, but it was designed that at night the light shooting up on the pillars also strikes the dome. The dome has prisms that break the light into different color and as you can see it really adds something to the picture. I have not seen anyone else do this at night.

It was raining and cold when we took that picture, and they were fine about it! I asked if they wanted to do it. Who wants to go out in the cold rain on their wedding night. I wrapped all my equipment in plastic garbage bags, gave Shawn and Maria my umbrella and off we went.

I have some more ideas for that same place, so I hope I can do this again.

When we did Maria Bridals I knew we were going to have a lot of fun on her wedding day. She is such a sweet girl. I know I only spent a day or two with them, but I could tell that they are a very giving couple. It blew me away that on their wedding day Maria wanted to make sure that I was doing okay. She offered to get me something to drink. It may sound silly, but this was her special day, not mine. She just made me feel special. I'm so glad that I was part of their day.
